Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Foodlas (“we”, “us”) processes when you use foodlas.com, why, and the choices you have.

Summary

  • You can use Foodlas without an account. We do not ask for your name, email address or any other personal details.
  • The barcode scanner runs entirely in your browser. Camera images are never uploaded or stored.
  • Our servers keep short-lived technical logs for security and reliability.
  • We may show advertising provided by Google. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure ads, as described below.

Information we process

Server logs. When you visit a page, our hosting infrastructure records the requested URL, date and time, browser type (user agent), referring page and your IP address. Logs are used to keep the service secure, diagnose errors and prevent abuse, and are deleted after 30 days. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Search queries. Searches you type on Foodlas are processed to return results. They are not linked to your identity.

Preferences stored on your device. If you switch between light and dark mode, the choice is saved in your browser’s local storage. It never leaves your device.

Cookies and advertising

Foodlas may display ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the Internet.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent message, provided by a Google-certified consent management platform, before any advertising cookies are set. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through the “Privacy settings” link at the bottom of every page.

Third-party content

Product photos are loaded from Open Food Facts servers (images.openfoodfacts.org). When your browser loads a photo, Open Food Facts receives your IP address and browser information as a normal part of serving the image; we send these requests without a referrer. See the Open Food Facts privacy policy.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Because we do not collect account data, most requests can be met simply by clearing cookies and local storage in your browser. For anything else, contact us at the address below.

Children

Foodlas is a general-audience information site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The date at the bottom of the page shows the latest revision.
